Bottlenose Dolphin Tursiops truncatus
 
Identification: Dark grey uppers, light gray flanks and white underparts. Sickle-shaped dorsal fin and short beak. Pods amble around; most common view is Thumbnail 1.
Information: Distribution: north-east Scotland, Inner Hebrides, Cardigan Bay and West Coast of Scotland. Mostly easily see at Channery Point in the Moray Firth on an incoming tide as they chase Atlantic Salmon. Can occur more widely.
Similar species: Short-beaked Common Dolphin, Harbour Porpoise.
