Identification: Striking pinkish-grey plumage with white rump and black tail. Wings are black and white with a blue covert patch. Harsh call is useful to know as this bird is shy in woodland.
Information: Distribution: resident throughout the British Isles, number increase in winter. If someone starts a conversation with 'I saw a strange bird', you can answer 'Jay' before you are given a description and you will invariably be correct.
