Northern Gannet Morus bassanus
Identification: Adults are unmistakeable. They are large with long wings. The white plumage has black ink-dipped tips to the wings. It's unique profile can be identified at some considerable distance. Brown immatures might be mistaken for the rare larger shearwaters which you are hardly likely to come across by accident.
Information: Distribution: pelagic, a few large breeding colonies around the British Isles. Can be seen in all British waters throughout the year. Bempton Cliffs is the most accessible site. The sound file is unlikely to help identify this species.
Similar species: None.
