Tufted Duck Aythya fuligula
Identification: Short-tuft on hind-neck. Males are black and white, females are brown. Females sometimes resemble female Scaup when they have pale around the base of the bill. Key ID feature requires good views: tip of bill is black. Scaup has nail of bill black.
Information: Distribution: resident throughout the British Isles with numbers increasing in winter.
Similar species:Scaup is uncommon.
